Eva Varhaníková

Winner of several prizes at national and international piano competitions. Performed concerts at home and abroad (England, Russia, Czech Republic, Poland, Slovenia, Lithuania, Finland, Italy, Spain, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Iceland). Collaborated with domestic and foreign orchestras and as a chamber musician with several performers (e.g., pianist Zuzana Niederdorfer-Paulechová, singer Ivan Zvarík, accordionist Michal Červienka and guitarist Adam Marec). She has made numerous public recordings for the radio broadcaster Slovenský rozhlas. Premiered several works by Slovak authors (P. Špilák, J. Iršai, E. Krák et al.).

Her early piano studies were under the guidance of Peter Ličko. Starting in 1992, she studied at the Conservatory in Žilina in the piano class of Mgr. Darina Švárna. She graduated from the Conservatory in 1998 with a graduation concert in cooperation with the Slovak Sinfonietta in Žilina. She continued her studies under the guidance of Prof. Zuzana Niederdorfer, ArtD. at the Faculty of Performing Arts at the Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica. In 2009, she completed her PhD studies at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava in the class of prof. Zuzana Niederdorfer, ArtD. During her studies, she actively participated in several masterclass performance courses – in Brno (doc. J. Skovajsa), Jihlava (prof. K. Seibert, prof. R. Kvapil), in Piešťany (E. Indjic), in Sanok. Eva Varhaníková has won several prizes at national and international piano competitions. In 1999, she received an honorary distinction prize at the international competition of B. Martinů in Prague. In May 2002, she performed at several concerts in London as part of the Anglo-Czechoslovak Trust festival. At this festival, she received an award for her interpretation of F. Liszt and J. Cikker. In 2004, she won 3rd place at the international competition of B. Smetana in Plzeň. As a member of a piano duet, she took part in the international competition of F. Schubert in Jeseník, where together with Aneta Majerová, they won 1st place. In February 2008, she received the Golden Parnassus award given to the best participants of the International Pianists’ Forum in Sanok, Poland. She actively and continuously participates in many concerts. She has performed on renowned stages at home and abroad, for example in London (England), Prague (Czech Republic), Klaipėda (Lithuania), Oulu (Finland), Florence (Italy), Sanok and Warsaw (Poland), Lviv (Ukraine), Moscow (Russia), Ruse (Bulgaria), Reykjavík (Iceland), Sapri (Italy), Barcelona (Spain), Ljubljana (Slovenia). She has collaborated with domestic and foreign symphony orchestras (Slovak Philharmonic Bratislava, Slovak Sinfonietta Žilina, Chamber Orchestra České Budějovice, Symphony Orchestra of the Lviv National Music Academy, Philharmonic in Ruse, Orchestra of the State Opera in Banská Bystrica, Orchestra Camerata Novisoliensis Banská Bystrica, Slovak Chamber Orchestra Bratislava). As a chamber musician she has collaborated with oustanding Slovak performers – in a piano duet with Zuzana Niederdorfer, in a piano quintet with Dalibor Karvay, Jozef Podhoranský, Zuzana Bouřová and Ján Krígovský as well as in a piano trio with Jozef Podhoranský and Zuzana Bouřová. She regularly performs as a chamber musician with singer Ivan Zvarík, accordionist Michal Červienka and guitarist Adam Marec. She is a member of the chamber ensemble Invention Quartet, which has been performing successfully on domestic and international stages over a long period of time. In 2020, she founded the chamber ensemble Slovak Nuevo Quintet, which has already performed several national and international concerts. She has performed with the Tchaikovsky Quartet from Moscow as part of international cooperation in the field of chamber music. Eva Varhaníková actively promotes original Slovak works for piano in her concert performances, she has recorded a profile CD of works by Slovak composers and has performed numerous domestic and international premieres of original Slovak works. As a lecturer of piano playing, she has given masterclasses at international festivals in Moscow, Sanok, Warsaw as well as at leading music art colleges in Lithuania, Hungary, Italy and Iceland. She actively takes part in the organisation of many artistic events. She co-organises the international piano arts festival Forum per tasti, the international piano competition Forum per tasti and the national competition Musica slovacca. She is an independent author of several projects focused on the development of Slovak art and international cooperation
